Elegoo Saturn S

The Elegoo Saturn S, this machine is a MSLA Mono LCD Resin printer.

This printer sits in the medium size category along with the Anycubic Mono X and the Phrozen Mighty 4K.

Our machine has been operating for around 3 months and has run 100s of resin prints so it was a good test to see how this machine works over the long run.

Pricing for this machine we found to be quite reasonable which is priced at around $600.00 AUD.

Specs for this machine are as follows:

LCD screen size 9.1 inches with a resolution of 4098 x 2560 (4K Resolution)

Diecast aluminum Resin vat

Build volume 195 x 122 x 210mm

Matrix LED UV light source

Double linear guide rails

In built carbon filter module connected Via USB

USB interface for reading ctb files.

What’s in the box:

Elegoo provide a good amount of accessories that come with this machine and we were pleasantly surprised with the tools that were provided.

1 steel scraper

1 plastic scraper

1 cutting pliers

10 paper filters

2 sets of gloves

3 masks

1 leveling card

Setting up:

When we first received our Saturn S it was well packaged and protected which was a good sign Elegoo takes time to package their machines well.

Assembly was very straight forward with the build plate leveling a breeze, we had the Elegoo Saturn S up and running in about 5 Minutes.

The instructions are very clear in regards to setting up the Saturn S Showing the leveling process steps clearly , Elegoo also provide a leveling card to assist with the leveling process which seems to work fine as we had no issues with the 1st prints that came out of the machine. There is a test print provided on the supplied USB which came out perfect.

Resins we used in our tests were Anycubic Tough flexible resin, Anycubic ABS like tough resin, Anycubic Eco resin and Esun Bio resin, these all worked well producing great detail with the slightly oversize 9.1 inch LCD screen.

We have also done multiple FEP (release film in the vat) replacements which were fairly straight forward, we noticed the FEP was lasting for around 100 prints which seems pretty good.

We did have one occasion where the FEP ended up getting a hole in it and it leaked resin onto the screen, we found this not easy to get off as the screen does not have glass cover on top of it and scratches easily when trying to remove the cured resin from it. We found using alcohol on the screen for a short period of time to soak which softened the resin a little helping to remove it off the screen, but we did manage unfortunately to put some small scratches in the LCD. I think maybe Elegoo need to put a thin layer of glass or screen protector over the top as this would help with resin spills on the screen.

Our Saturn S has racked up around 300 print jobs now and is still printing the same as the first day we got it.
